New polling results show disapproval growing for McCrory and General Assembly

RALEIGH, NC (WECT) – New polling data done on North Carolina's political leaders show many voters are not happy with the results coming out of Raleigh.

Public Policy Polling surveyed 500 voters from June 12-14. Only 20% of those who responded approve of the job being done by the General Assembly, as opposed to 56% who disapprove. The remaining 23% responded they are not sure.

Both Democrats and Independents showed a larger displeasure for the General Assembly's work. Only 10% of Democrats and 20% of Independents approved, while 64% of Democrats and 63% of Independents disapprove. Moreover, only 36% of Republican responders approved of the General Assembly, while 40% disapproved.

Governor Pat McCrory registered a 45% approval rating for the entire polling sample. Republicans ran a 71% approval, Independents registered 46% and Democrats 24%. McCrory's disapproval numbers went from 60% with Democrats, to 34% with Independents and 17% with Republicans. To show some history, McCrory's approval/disapproval numbers have gone from a +26% (45/19) in January, to +14% (49/35) in March to the current +6% (45/39) standing.

    After walking out of a committee meeting Monday discussing funds for victims of Hurricane Matthew, Rep. Brenden Jones (R-Columbus) says he did not get the answers to his questions. “To be honest with you, we saw a lot of pretty charts and a lot of pretty graphs, but we still have no answers,” Rep Jones said about the meeting of the House Select Committee on Disaster Relief.
