WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Cape Fear Public Utility Authority is one of 49 utilities in North Carolina being honored for surpassing federal and state drinking water standards.
According to the NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the awards are part of the NC Area Wide Optimization Program, which is an effort to enhance the performance of existing surface water treatment facilities.
The awards are given each year to water systems that show outstanding turbidity removal, a key test of drinking water quality.
All drinking water systems have to meet strict state and federal standards, but CFPUA met performance goals that are significantly more stringent.
