BURGAW, NC (WECT) – Downtown Burgaw hosted the tenth annual North Carolina Blueberry Festival Saturday.
The festival brought thousands to the area.
There was plenty of delicious food, fun and games and of course - blueberries.
Sharonda Boykin made a return trip with her family to the festival. She came to the festival with a mission.
"We're looking for blueberry jam," said Boykin. "We're basically all about the blueberries."
Karen Venema of Jacksonville is a gardener and a big blueberry fan. She too had purchased a flat of blueberries.
"It's pesticide free. It's healthy, it's what this area should be about," said Venema.
According to the festival's web site, Pender County ranks second in blueberry production for the entire state.
The site also said the first cultivate blueberry production in the state started in Pender County in the 1930s.
