It centers around auditions for a musical at a high school in New Mexico. Troy, the athlete, and Gabriella, the mathlete, try to break social barriers by going out for the leads.
Things get difficult for them as others try to sabotage their chances of being cast.
The show quickly became a cult hit when it debuted on the Disney Channel in 2006, encouraging kids to be true to themselves.
"I think in this day and age it's about breaking free, breaking the molds society puts on us and I think it's still very relevant," said director David Loudermilk. "If you are a High School Musical fan, just bringing back all those great memories, and even if you weren't a High School Musical fan, just the music alone and the talent of these kids is the reason that you should come support it."
