Scouts look to possibly film movie with Reese Witherspoon in Wilm

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Location crews for a new film reportedly starring Reese Witherspoon are scouting the New Hanover County area.

The scouts are a part of the new movie Three Little Words, according to a spokesperson with New Hanover County. Boyer said it's a good sign that the crew is scouting in person, as opposed to by phone.

Witherspoon will star in the movie directed by James Mangold, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The two previously worked together on Walk the Line, with Witherspoon earning an Oscar for her role as June Carter.

The movie is an adaptation of a memoir submitted to the New York Times. It tells the story of a young girl moving through foster families for years until a volunteer (Witherspoon) helps the girl find her biological mother.

Producers hope to have the project started by September in Florida, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Cape Fear area attracts the interest of close to 150 - 160 movie productions, according to Wilmington Regional Film Commission Director Johnny Griffin. A small percent of those inquiries materialize, so Griffin said his policy is not to comment on possible projects until the production team announces it.
