A candlelight vigil will be held on Sunday evening to remember Garin Niehaus, a one-year-old child whose body was found Friday just outside of Hillsboro.
The body of a one-year-old child was found in a wooded area of Hillboro, Ohio on Friday afternoon.
The Hillsboro Police department first received reports of a suspicious death of a one-year-old child on Thursday. The caller indicated concern for the welfare of two other children in the home.
The caller identified the mother of the child as 26-year-old Whitney Johnson. The caller advised that Johnson's boyfriend, 25-year-old Nathan Ritze, had a warrant out for his arrest.
Authorities went to the residence of Johnson and two children were located. Police believe Ritze fled the home at this time.
Police located Johnson at her place of work and took her to Richmond Police Department for questioning. Ritze was later located by police.
After questioning, police obtained the location to look for the body of the missing one-year-old child. A law enforcement search team located the remains of the child off of Diven Road in Liberty Township.
Both Johnson and Ritze are being held in Madison County jail in Kentucky.
The two children were taken into custody by Kentucky Children Services.
Details of the child's initial disappearance and death are still undetermined.
The child has been identified as Garin Niehaus. The public is invited to attend a vigil for Garin on Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Highland County Courthouse
