SHALLOTTE, NC (WECT) - Movie crews from the feature film Tammy are packing up and heading to south Brunswick County, taking over one restaurant for the weekend.
The Grille on Main Street in Shallotte is being transformed into a major movie set.
Construction crews from Adobe Productions are hard at work, building a new set for the film which is scheduled to start shooting on Friday and continue until Monday.
Sal Rubio, the owner of the restaurant, says it took him more than three weeks to renovate the building into The Grille, but it only takes three days for crews to build their set.
They've completely remodeled the roof, given the building a new paint job, and even upgraded the inside with new booths.
The script calls for several scenes with actors Melissa McCarthy and Susan Sarandon, who will be there this weekend.
The film is also looking for extras.
When filming is complete, Rubio says he hopes to keep some of the renovations around.
"It's definitely a boost," said Rubio. "It's not like Safe Haven, where the whole movie was filmed in Southport and based in Southport. But just having a couple scenes here and people wanting to come in a look around at the renovations, look at the changes, trying out some of the food for the first time, and us being able to keep some of the renovations would help."
The restaurant will be closed this weekend while the crews are filming. However, the production company says they will reimburse Rubio with any money he may have lost in the process.
