WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - Early Monday evening, a boat that was trying to dock offshore hit Johnnie Mercer's Pier and became stranded in the shallow water.

The yacht reportedly lost power offshore and drifted into the breakers where it collided with the cement pier.

Ocean Rescue got people from the boat to the shore.

According to Wildlife officers, the driver of the boat, Michael Rushing of Southport, was arrested and charged with operating a vessel while impaired.

He is out of jail on bond.

Sea Tow pulled the yacht away. There was no damage to the pier, but there was some to the boat.

There were no injures reported and everyone was able to get off the boat.
