NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Changes could be coming to Market Street in the Porters Neck area.
To alleviate traffic concerns the Department of Transportation has about a Walmart SuperCenter, the developer is now proposing changes to the road.
The plan calls for eliminating the so-called "suicide lane" in the middle of Market Street and replacing it with a median.
The median would be placed along the street from Marsh Oaks to Porters Neck Road.
Thursday night, the developer met with neighbors and drivers to answer questions and hear concerns about the proposal.
The developer said the median would prevent U-turns and decrease accidents in the area.
Some neighbors have expressed concerns about plans for the Walmart, including its proximity to homes that border the proposed site and increased congestion.
The Porters Neck project will go before the county's planning board June 6.
