A lot of people are looking forward to a three day weekend because of the Memorial Day holiday.
Many of us are ready for summer to start. Some of us will have family gatherings and barbecues. Some of us will hit the beach or hit the road.
But, please remember the reason we have this federal holiday. Memorial Day is set aside each year to honor those who have died in service to our country. And we all need to honor that as American citizens.
You don't have to do anything grandiose. Here are a few ideas.
There's a national moment of silence Monday for one minute. It will take place at 3 p.m. Stand silent and reflect on the sacrifices made to help keep us safe.
Visit the National Cemetery off Market Street and say a little prayer for those buried there.
You can also fly an American flag outside your home to show your support for our country.
None of these ideas will take a lot of time or money. And you'll still have time for your barbecue, beach or road trip.
That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
