NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - North Carolina Department of Transportation crews will begin maintenance work on the I-40 E. Bridge beginning Friday, May 17.
According to a news release, the work will take place near mile marker 414 in Castle Hayne, weather permitting.
NCDOT officials say crews will intermittently close the right and left lanes on I-40 E. between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 19 in order to prepare cables to be replaced on the bridge.
Crews will close the bridge Sunday, May 19 at 9:30 p.m. so that crews can replace cables over the CSX railroad tracks. Closures will take place nightly from 9:30 p.m. until 4:30 a.m. through Thursday, May 23, according to officials.
Motorists should follow a signed detour using N.C. 210, U.S. 117 and Holly Shelter Rd. to avoid the closure.
