Accused killer abused, witnesses say

Two social workers confirm a Wilmington man on trial for murder was abused as a child.

Paul Cummings is accused of stabbing his neighbor, Jane Head in 2002.

The defense contends Cummings was suffering from some sort of a mental disorder when he killed the woman, and that he shouldn't be convicted of first degree murder, which could mean the death penalty.

Social workers confirmed what Cummings mother told the jury Wednesday: the defendant was beaten by his father.
