Bolton Police Chief Edward Gillim is back on the job.
BOLTON, NC (WECT) - It's been a little more than a month since the Chief of the Bolton Police Department, Edward Gillim, was shot helping a fellow officer. The man who shot him is still on the loose.
Gillim is not 100 percent back to normal, but he is back on the job.
"I really look at life in a different way," said Gillim. "A very positive way. I thank God each and every day for my life and being here for the community."
For the time being, Bolton Chief Edward Gillim is only helping the community from behind his desk. He's been back on the job for three weeks, since he's still recovering he's limited to what he can do.
"Usually what I do, I'll check my emails, look at referrals, make phone calls...trying to make sure probation violations, agencies, I get in contact with them," said Gillim. "Working on grant structure stuff."
Gillim's leg has healed a lot since he was shot.
"My training and treatments, it's working out," he said. "I do use my cane for support. My leg is getting stronger. It just depends how it feels. How it's progressing."
Bolton only has one other police officer. Gillim is in the process of hiring two more and says that he's looking forward to the future and looking into community policing, community watch groups and more.
Gillim says that he's had people far away as Boston and Connecticut reach out to him. The SBI is investigating the shooting.
