NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - New Hanover County sheriff's deputies have arrested a former karate instructor, who is accused of violating the terms of his probation.

John David Maisenhelder entered an Alford guilty plea in late 2010 to charges related to taking indecent liberties with minors. He was accused of inappropriately touching several young girls during classes at an after-school karate program. Maisenhelder used the Alford plea, which means he admitted there was evidence against him, but did not admit to the facts.

Maisenhelder was sentenced to serve a little more than a year in prison, with probation after that. He was also required to register as a sex offender.

According to the warrant, issued Monday, Maisenhelder is now accused of going to Trask Middle School in early February. That would violate the terms of his registration as a sex offender.
