WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - Many people on the beach, translates to few available parking spaces.

Mark Maynard who lives in Wrightsville Beach, believes an idea he came up with called ParkHog.com will bring relief to those beach goers who circle around numerous times, looking for somewhere to park.

"It's a website I came up with to connect people at the beach who want to rent out their driveways to people who are trying to find parking spaces. So it'll enable people to rent out their driveways," said Maynard.

Last week, the website was up and running, but Maynard has decided to pump the brakes on the idea.

"It turned out to be an ill conceived idea. It's actually against the law. It involves conducting a commercial activity with a residential zone district" said Maynard.

"Anytime you try and conduct a customer business in a residential neighborhood it's a problem. I can see some issues with neighbors having cars parked all over the lawn, just an issue in town. He would have to come before have the code voted on to allow for it," said Tim Owens, the town manager of Wrightsville Beach.

Although Maynard says, he's backing away from the concept, he wouldn't be surprised if someone tries doing the idea through a business.

"Yeah, it's legal within commercial zone districts. That's a possibility," added Maynard.

"It's possible, but they'll also have to get town approval for that." said Owens.

Maynard says, he would like to work with someone who would use his website to help people reserve parking.
