Defendant's mother testifies

It's the defense's turn to make its case at a Wilmington murder trial, and the first witness is the defendant's mother.

Paul Cummings is accused of stabbing Jane Head in 2002. He admits he killed her, but the defense maintains he shouldn't be executed because of his mental condition at the time of the crime.

Cummings mother testified Wednesday. Pearline Ransom says her son was brutally abused by his father.

Her testimony is aimed at bolstering the defense contention that Cummings may have been suffering from a post-traumatic stress disorder when he stabbed Head.
