CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) – College students from across the country are competing this week on Jeopardy.

Thursday night, a lot of eyes from the Wilmington area will be watching one contestant in particular – Bill Driscoll of Carolina Beach.

The college senior from our area says when he found out he was going to be a contestant, he almost injured himself.

"I actually started jumping up and down and fell down the stairs when I found out I was going to be on Jeopardy," said Driscoll.

The Stanford college student said he's been practicing for this day with his fiercest competitor – his mom.

"Watching Jeopardy in my house is pretty competitive," said Driscoll.

The college contestants come from universities across the country, and are typically students who ace their exams.

"Preparing for Jeopardy is a lot more fun than preparing for finals," explained Driscoll, who even got some coaching tips from Jeopardy host Alex Trebek.

Trebek says the college shows are a favorite.

"I think the special part of the college Jeopardy championships is the fact that quite often there are natural school rivalries and that helps make it more exciting for the viewers and for me," said Trebek.

Be sure to watch Driscoll compete for the Jeopardy win Thursday night on WECT at 7:30.
