PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A man in Pender County was arrested after calling 911 nearly a dozen times with false threats.

According the Pender County Sheriff's Office, Rodney Spencer Toland, 45, starting calling 911 April 30 around 8:00 p.m. Officers said he called the 911 center threatening them and creating fake emergencies in different locations.

Throughout the string of calls, he says his name is James and threatens to kill his wife, who he claims is cheating on her with a man named Rodney.

"My Name is James," Toland told the 911 operator. "My wife and her boyfriend, Rodney, they arguing in my yard."

Toland hung up shortly after that and called back saying he had guns in his home.

"Look, I'm going to kill my wife, and kids, and kill Rodney," said Toland when he called 911.

This pattern of threats continued for several hours throughout the night, until officers went to Toland's home in Hampstead and arrested him just after midnight without incident.

The sheriff's office said Toland admitted to the investigating officer he was intoxicated. He was charged with ten counts of misuse of a 911 system and two charges of communicating threats.
