WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Hunter Ridge, UNCW's all-time hits leader, has been suspended for the remainder of the season for violation of team rules. The suspension includes any postseason play and ends Ridge's career in the Teal.

UNCW director of athletics Jimmy Bass confirmed the suspension late Monday evening.

His last appearance came April 23 at North Carolina and Ridge was not in the dugout for any of the weekend series against Northeastern.  Over his last seven games played Ridge went a combined 5-24 from the plate.

Ridge started 35 games this season and broke Jason Appel's previous record of 260 hits with an infield single March 20th against Charleston Southern.

The senior leaves as the programs leader in at bats (841), hits (277), tied for first in RBI (182) and fourth in games played (218).
