WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Dogs from across the country came to Battleship Park in Wilmington over the weekend as part of the Second Annual Battleship Splash, dogs took turns jumping into the water.

Dogs were tested in areas such as jumping the farthest and "speed retrieve." Hundreds of dogs were signed up coming from as far away as Buffalo, NY.

"I think the dogs excitement is what's so contagious," said Kelly O'Brin, who brought her dogs all the way from Virginia Beach. "They get so excited, you get excited. It's a bond between you and the dog on the dock. It looks simple but it's actually very technical so it gets competitive and everybody just has a great time."

Carolina Dock Dogs hosted the three day event.  Organizers say they hope to hold another event next year in the first weekend in May.
