WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – UNCW golfer Lori Beth Adams is looking to make program history. Adams, who will play in the NCAA Central Regional in Oklahoma May 9-11, is trying to become the first Seahawk to advance to the NCAA Women's National Championship.
During the regular season Adams was called upon to be the Seahawks top scorer every tournament. Now she heads to the Jimmy Austin Golf Course just looking to have fun. "I am just going out to play. There is no pressure on myself, just treat it as a regular tournament" said Adams.
Only the top two individual players not part of the top eight teams advancing will make it to the NCAA Championships. While Adams is ranked 74th in the country she has a great chance of moving on according to Seahawk Head Coach Cindy Ho. "She is one of the best players in the country. She could be a starter on any of these 72 teams that are out there."
Adams is the fourth Seahawks to earn an individual berth into the NCAA Regionals. The others players to do so are Sofia Hagsund, Michelle Jarman, and Nichole Flood.
