COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The Columbus County school system is one of the few in the area that offers a course for students to learn how to build a house.

Students in the construction technology class at West Columbus High are putting the finishing touches on the three bedroom, two bathroom house pictured, which took them two years to build.

There will be an auction for the house May 31. Students say besides giving them early experience if they decide to do construction work, it also teaches them how to replace their own windows or doors.

Teacher Tim Jones said they're hoping someone will bid more than $60,000 for the house.

In addition, students recently built 20 birdhouses for Allen Brothers Hunting Preserve in Bladen County.
