WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – It's been a long time coming, but veterans can now receive an array of health care services in Wilmington.
Senators Kay Hagan and Richard Burr were at the opening celebration of the expansion at the Wilmington VA Health Care Center. The clinic is located at 1705 Gardner Drive, next to the Wilmington International Airport.
The expansion will allow veterans more options for health services, including day surgery, mental health, cardiology, women's health, MRIs, mammograms, and cat scans.
Adding these services means many veterans will no longer have to drive to the medical center in Fayetteville for care.
"These courageous men and women will now have increased access to the high-quality health care and diverse services they deserve," said Hagan in a news release when plans for the project were secured.
The project was originally announced in November 2009, but hit a few snags along the way.
