NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Members of Stop Titan Action Network celebrated five years of fighting any future plans of a cement plant opening in New Hanover County.

The Sunday event marked the 5th anniversary for the activist group. Ashley Reed said the group's support system has grown stronger since it first started.

"That's what gives me hope that we're going to be able to move past this," she said. "And build a cleaner and brighter Wilmington."

Titan America is currently going through the permitting process. Environmental groups challenged the state's approval for an air quality permit in February 2012.
