WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - While the red carpet Hollywood premiere of Iron Man 3 was filled with glitz and glam, it was also filled with high praise for Wilmington.
You heard the stars talking about their experience making the movie in Hollywood East.
Shane Black, the director of Iron Man 3, was also impressed.
"It's a beautiful, picturesque place to make a movie," he said.
One of the reasons the film selected Wilmington was due to the state's incentives program.
We talked to Black about a recent proposal by some state lawmakers to make changes to the program.
"I don't understand why anyone wouldn't have been happy with the experience that went on there because we were certainly thrilled with the experience we had in North Carolina," said Black.
Charles Newirth, an executive producer on the project, also talked to us in length about the state's incentives program.
"It saddens me that there would be a chance of them getting rid of the rebate because Wilmington has so much to offer," said Newirth. "It has sound stages. EUE Screen Gems was incredible for us. It has everything you need to make a movie. The crew is excellent. We couldn't have done it without the crew in Wilmington."
As for the proposal that some critics said would gut the film incentive program, Newirth said, "I hope that the state legislature thinks long and hard about all the good we bring into town. We bring a lot of money with us. We spend a lot of money there. We create jobs. And we leave a lot behind. It was a remarkable experience. So, I truly hope they keep the rebate in place because it means something to the studios to have a competitive environment out there when you make movies. We loved Wilmington. I would go back in a heartbeat."
Newirth said his wife fell in love with the Port City, while he and his family spent over a year in town.
"All I can tell you is that my wife wanted to buy a house there," he said. "So, we loved Wilmington. I had one of the best summers that I ever had with my family there. It's a great town. The people were fantastic. The crew in Wilmington was as good as any crew I've worked with anywhere."
Newirth said he is returning to Wilmington this weekend for six screenings of Iron Man 3 at Regal Mayfaire Cinemas. The screenings are invite-only and being held for those who were involved in the production.
