WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A 19-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged with two counts of misdemeanor and breaking and entering after police say he attempted to break in to some Wilmington apartments early Friday morning.
Mattingly David Packman was arrested and booked at the New Hanover County Jail under a $250 bond, according to a spokesperson for the Wilmington Police Department.
Officers responded to a call regarding a breaking and entering in process at the Campus Edge apartment complex on Racine Drive around 2:40 a.m. Friday.
The call was in reference to a male attempting to break down the door of a residence that a single female lives in.
The female warned Packman to go away, but he refused and continued trying to break down the door.
At one point, he reportedly tried to break into a neighboring apartment, and when he went back to the female's apartment door, she fired a weapon to try to scare him away.
However, Packman was not deterred and was still trying to break down the door when officers arrived and subdued him.
Police noted that it appeared he was intoxicated.
