WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Members of one of the largest activist groups in southeastern North Carolina are continuing their efforts to gain more support.

Members of the Stop Titan group are celebrating their five-year anniversary this week.

Saturday, organizers set up a tent at the Earth Day festival at Hugh McRae Park.

Organizers hope to add 500 more signatures to their petition against the Titan cement plant.

That petition currently has more than 15,000 signatures already.

Organizers also passed out buttons, flyers, and T-shirts.

Their mission is to strive for a community committed to protecting air-quality, water, economy and children.

Organizers are planning a rally to celebrate their fifth anniversary, scheduled for Sunday, April 28 at 3 p.m. next to the Tidal Creek Co-Op on Oleander Drive.
