SOUTHPORT, North Carolina – Two-time defending champion UNCW posted a team total 332 on Friday and is in sixth place after the opening 18 holes of the 2013 CAA Women's Golf Championships on the Reserve Club of the St. James Plantation.
The Seahawks are two shots back of fifth place William & Mary (330) and 11 strokes behind fourth place James Madison (321).
Xavier holds a three shot lead over the field as it carded a team result of 313 over the opening 18 holes. Delaware (316) is second while Richmond (317) is one shot back of the Blue Hens in third.
Sophomore Mallory Warrick paced the Seahawks lineup with a nine-over-par 81 on Friday that puts her in a tie for 13th. Junior Lori Beth Adams and sophomore Mattie Tobey are both two shots back of Warrick and make up half of a four-way tie for 23rd. Junior Megan Burnham (85/T-32nd) and senior Danielle Lamy (87/36th) completed UNCW's entry.
Richmond's Tracy Martin holds the individual lead after posting a two-over-par 74 on Friday. Xavier's Shane Crutchfield is one shot back of Martin in second with an opening round 75 while James Madison's Sahbril Brewer (76) is in third.
Second round action at the 2013 CAA Women's Golf Championships will begin on Saturday at 9 a.m. The Seahawks will be paired with James Madison and William & Mary and are scheduled to begin the round on the No. 10 tee at 9 a.m.
