OAK ISLAND, NC (WECT) – According to Oak Island Mayor Betty Wallace, fire officials now have a fire in the town under control.

Mayor Wallace says the fire broke out at a home near the corner of East 19th Street and Pelican Drive. No one was living at the home, which is a total loss, and Wallace says no one was injured.

There is only one wall that is still standing on the home, and it appears that no other structures were damaged in the fire.

"As always, we are grateful to our Oak Island Fire and EMS responders for their professionalism," Wallace said.  "I'd like to personally thank the personnel with Southport, St. James and Yaupon for responding to the fire."

We will update this story with any new information as soon as we get it.
