On Thursday prosecutors displayed what they say is the knife used to murder a Wilmington woman.
A crime scene investigator showed the knife detectives believe Paul Cummings used to stab his neighbor, Jane Head, in 2002.
Soon, defense lawyers will argue Cummings wasn't sober when the crime was committed, although it appears they won't deny he was involved. They'll also point out that Cummings is the victim of an abusive childhood.
If convicted, Cummings could face the death penalty.
