Is the PGA Tour coming to Wilmington?

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Could the PGA Tour be coming to Wilmington?  The Winston-Salem Journal is reporting that it is a possibility that the Wells Fargo Championship could be moved to the Eagle Point Golf Club.

The Wells Fargo Championship is currently held at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte. Quail Hollow Club is contracted to host it for two more years, but in 2017 the Club hosts the 2017 PGA Championship, meaning the Wells Fargo Tournament needs a new home.

Johnny Harris, the president of Quail Hollow, told the Winston-Salem Journal that it's a little premature to say if the tournament would move to Eagle Point, but it is being discussed.  "I think it will be worked out this summer as to where it would move and it would be up to Wells Fargo and the (PGA Tour) as to where it would go," Harris said.

Eagle Point which is a private club was built in 2000, and was designed by Tom Fazio.  The course nationally ranked as one of the best in the country.  In Golf Digest's 2013-2014 top 100, Eagle Point was ranked 67th.
