Auburn scrimmages; Grant impresses

Posted: Updated:

AUBURN – The Auburn Tigers held a 90-minute officiated scrimmage under sunny skies Saturday morning at Jordan-Hare Stadium, wrapping up the third week of football spring drills.

It was Auburn's 10th practice of the spring.

"We had an 86-play scrimmage today, moving the ball in different situations and mixing and matching personnel," Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn said afterward.

"We're learning more every time out there; our coaches are going to have a lot of situations with different guys to evaluate.

"Corey Grant made some good runs; that's what stood out to me. He's a hard worker and does a lot of dirty work. Any time you've got a guy who can run, you can do some different things. "We were almost 50-50 run-pass today; that was set up that way to evaluate both aspects. We're getting better.

"I'm more concerned about our attitude, our work ethic, our approach, how we respond to adversity and success. The Xs and Os after spring -- we'll be able to settle in and concentrate on Xs and Os, but big picture, I'm more interested in our team chemistry and how we react to certain situations. I'd say we're improving."

Auburn will not practice Monday. The Tigers will return to the practice field Wednesday morning in the final week of preparation for A-Day on Saturday, April 20, scheduled for a 1 p.m. CT kickoff at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
