NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A woman was cited Thursday after authorities with the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office came across the second illegal gambling operation in the county this year, according to Sgt. Brewer with the sheriff's office.

Mary Hitt Woodie, 56, was cited for operating/conducting a server based electronic game after authorities executed a search warrant around 2 p.m. at The Carolina Winery, located at 2824 Suite 6 on Carolina Beach Road, and more than a dozen machines were confiscated.

The warrant came after several undercover operations were conducted at the business.

"Once they recognized that the law has changed and we were enforcing it, a lot of owners did the right thing, those that didn't we're going to pursue," said Captain D.A. Ciamillo in a statement.

In January, a law went into effect that deemed electronic sweepstakes games to be illegal in North Carolina.
