NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Another Walmart could be coming to New Hanover County - this one would go in the Porters Neck area of the county.
According to a report from The Greater Wilmington Business Journal, Walmart officials announced Thursday a partnership with Paramount Development Corporation to possibly build a third Walmart Supercenter in the county.
The media outlet said plans include a 225,000 to 250,000 square foot retail center on 44 acres of land at 8107 Market Street. The land is reportedly owned by the YMCA and New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
"We look forward to providing north Wilmington customers with a new option for affordable food as well as a broad assortment of general merchandise," said Walmart spokesperson Bill Wertz in a news release sent to The Greater Wilmington Business Journal. "From an economic development standpoint, our store will employ about 300 people, help to attract other businesses to the area and generate tax revenue for the county."
Right now there are four Walmart supercenter stores in the area: two in Wilmington, one in Shallotte, and one in Leland. There is also a Sam's Club located in Wilmington.
