The Colerain Township Board of Trustees voted to demolish 14 different properties in Colerain Township.
A public hearing was held on Tuesday to decide whether or not the Township should move forward with the demolition.
In an effort to revitalize the community, city officials want to tear down the buildings they describe as 'unlivable'. Colerain Township says there's even an issue with crime in many of these vacant establishments, including a homicide in 2911 Jonrose Avenue last month.
However, many owners are against it.
"The message that I'm hearing here tonight is that we want it gone, but again, we're talking about the fact of taking my client's property, greatly reducing its value by tearing the improvements of it down," said an attorney representing property owners at Tuesday night's meeting.
Township officials plan to use funds from the Moving Ohio Forward Demolition Grant program towards the revitalization project.
Since the board voted elected to move forward with the demolition, property owners will have 30 days to appeal.
