WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A new play at the Brown Coat Pub & Theatre asks the question "was Shakespeare a girl?"

The play, written by Cody Daigle, is called William and Judith. It takes place in 1610 London and surrounds the Shakespeare family- William, his wife Anne Hathaway, daughter Jude, and sister Judith.

William Shakespeare's best friend Richard Burbage, the famous actor, needs a play to reopen the Globe Theatre after the plague and will take the first script ready.

The show was originally commissioned by Playhouse Theatre in Tulsa, Oklahoma and was chosen as the Best Play at the 2013 Great Plains Theatre Festival.
