Pantano leaves room to re-enter politics if he so chooses

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – With former state senator David Rouzer announcing his candidacy for the 7th District Congressional seat in 2014 Tuesday afternoon, one potential rival for the Republican nomination has not firmly decided whether he will re-enter the political world.

"I'm not out, but I'm not in," said Ilario Pantano Tuesday morning, leaving room to firmly make up his mind later this year or early in 2014. "Right now I am focusing on my book. I wish David all the best, and I look forward to the 2014 campaign season."

Pantano, a former Marine and Deputy in the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office, ran in the past two elections in the 7th District. He came up about eight points short to Rep. Mike McIntyre in the 2010 General Election, then losing the hotly-contested primary race to Rouzer in 2012. Rouzer lost the closest Congressional race in the country, falling short of McIntyre by less than 2,000 votes.

Pantano said the book is a "political story that is tied to history."

Titled, The Revolutionary South: The Liberal war on God, Guns, Guts and American History, Pantano says it is about the effect of politics on today's South. He says it is expected to be released by Christmas.

HR 601, which also makes necessary adjustments to keep the government open for another three months, passed the U.S House of Representatives Friday morning by a count of 316-90.
