WALLACE, North Carolina – The UNCW women's golf team combined for a team total 613 on Saturday to build a three-shot lead in the UNCW Seahawk Classic at the River Landing Golf Course.
Playing under sunny conditions on the par 72, 6,120 yard layout, the Seahawks finished the first day of competition with a 36-hole total of 305-308=613, three strokes ahead of Colonial Athletic Association rival Old Dominion (311-305=616) and state foe UNCG (312-304=616). Ivy-league member Princeton (307-310=617) is fourth while first-round leader Georgia State (304-314=618) occupies fifth.
Junior Lori Beth Adams paced the host Seahawks with a three-over-par total of 73-74=147 on Saturday; claiming a share of second place with Princeton's Kelly Shon (72-75=147).
Sophomore Mallory Warrick posted an eight-over-par total of 76-76=152 to claim a share of 10th place while fellow sophomore Mattie Tobey (75-80=155) is three strokes back of Warrick in a tie for 19th. Juniors Megan Burnham (81-78=159/T-35th) and Jeanne Metivier (85-91=176/T-66th) completed the Seahawks entry. Seniors Danielle Lamy (86-81=167/T-57th) and Brittany Gamby (92-91=183/69th) also part in the tournament, competing in the event as individual entries.
UNCG's Fanny Cnops holds a one-shot lead over the field with a two-over-par scorecard of 74-72=146. Fellow Spartan Courtney Taylor (74-75=149) and Longwood's Ariel Witmer (74-75=149) are three shots back of Cnops in a tie for fourth.
Final round action in the UNCW Seahawk Classic will begin Sunday with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m.
