Keeler and Dick lead Seahawks past Davidson

UNCW Press Release

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Matt Keeler and Corey Dick both knocked in four runs a piece to back another quality start by Jordan Ramsey as UNCW slugged its way past Davidson, 15-2, on Saturday at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks halted a brief two-game losing skid and improved to 22-10 with the non-conference win. The Wildcats, meanwhile, dropped to 9-20 and 0-12 on the road.

Keeler, who was making his first start since Feb. 24, drove in his career-high four RBI's on the strength of his first career home run, a three-run shot in the third, and a RBI single in the seventh. Dick and Dillon Bass led the Seahawks with three hits apiece. Drew Farber also belted a three-run homer.

Ramsey (5-2) won his fifth straight decision, allowing two runs on eight hits over seven innings. He finished with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Danny Mooney (3-4) took the loss for Davidson after surrendering eight runs, seven earned, in four innings.

Michael Zelbo collected two hits for the Wildcats.

Up next: The Seahawks and Wildcats conclude their weekend series with a 2 p.m. start on Sunday. Junior lefthander Christian MacDonald (3-0, 3.46 ERA) will start for the Seahawks.

How it happened: The Seahawks recorded three innings of three or more runs, including a four-run third and a five-run seventh. Keeler's round tripper highlighted the third-inning outburst while Farber's was the big blow in the fifth.

Inside the numbers: After going 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position on Friday, UNCW turned that around on Saturday, going 9-for-19 … Luke Dunlap and Dillon Bass each had a pair of two-out hits to keep innings alive … Jordan Ramsey did not allow a two-out hit all game and pitched out of bases-loaded situations on two occasions without letting up a run … DC went 0-for-5 with the bases loaded.

Notes: Dillon Bass had a career-high three hits … The Seahawks ran their home record to 18-6 … Ramsey is 5-0 with a 1.22 ERA during his five-game winning streak with 33 strikeouts in 37 innings … Luke Dunlap scored three runs and has reached base in all 10 plate appearances in the two games … UNCW improved to 15-3 all-time against Davidson and own a 3-2 record against the Southern Conference.
