Women's lacrosse coming to Darton State

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Darton State Cavalier fans will soon have a new team to root for: a women's lacrosse team.

Darton State Athletic Director Mike Kiefer says the school is in the initial stages of forming the team.

The team will begin on the club level, much like the Cavaliers' wrestling team did back in 2005. The wrestling team became a varsity sport in 2007-2008.

Kiefer says the school is searching for the team's first coach, who will begin recruiting players immediately

The school says the team hopes to begin play at the club level in the spring of 2014.
