UNIVERSAL CITY, CA (WECT) - NBC announced Wednesday that Jay Leno will step aside as the host of The Tonight Show in Spring 2014, when Jimmy Fallon takes over.
Leno has hosted the late night talk show for 22 years. Fallon has been the host of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon following Tonight since 2009. The Tonight Show will also return to its original home in 30 Rock in New York. Lorne Michaels, the head of Saturday Night Live, will executive produce the program.
The replacement for Fallon at 12:35 is still being decided, according to a release from NBC.
Leno has consistently been the top-rated show in the 18-49 age demographic and total viewers since moving back to the time slot in March 2010, plus the fourteen years before he moved to 10 p.m. in May 2009. Fallon has also been number in that demo in his time slot.
