NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Concerned neighbors questioned developers about a plan to bring a new shopping development to Porter's Neck.
Tuesday night, the developer hosted a meeting at the Northeast Library to address neighbors' concerns.
The development is being proposed for the wooded area near the Lowes on Market Street.
It could include a Walmart.
However, some neighbors said they are worried about the extra traffic the shopping center could bring to the area.
"Traffic's unacceptable today," said Dick Elmer, who lives in Porter's Neck. "And we're going to add a couple more thousand cars a day to an already tight bottle neck? We have to address the traffic situation."
The county's planning board must approve plans for the development before builders can move forward.
That process will likely begin at an upcoming planning board meeting.
