PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Pender commissioners will vote during their meeting Tuesday whether they want to fund two student resource officers in Pender County.
Each SRO officer would cost $53,000 per year, a total of $106,000.
The funding would cover additional equipment and training.
Commissioner Jimmy Tate says two is a great start, but he would like to see one in every school. Currently, Pender County has SRO's in every middle and high school, but not in elementary schools. By adding two SRO's, each one would oversea three schools.
"Two is a good starting point, but I would like to see us at the end of this year have full funding for all of the schools in our county," said Tate. "I said it some months ago, and I'll say it again, I would like to see full support for all of our schools in Pender County."
