WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC - (WECT) - On Sunday March 31, 2013 dozens of people joined Wrightsville Beach Scenic Tours for a special boat trip and Easter egg hunt on Masonboro Island. The trip started at the Blockade Runner Beach Resort dock and ended with a Easter egg hunt 5 miles off shore at Masonboro Island.

According to the North Carolina Coastal Reserve 87 percent of the 8.4 mile long island is covered with marsh and tidal flats. It's the largest undisturbed barrier island along the southern part of the North Carolina coast.

Organizers said it was a great way to get kids involved and interested in conservation at an early age.

"These are our next generation conversationalist and getting them at this young age, some of them are only 4 years old, they really get an understanding of where they're going because I go over that actually on the ride down," said Captain Joe Abbate

There were 3 separate egg hunts starting at 11 a.m. with the last boat leaving at 3 p.m.
