BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Brunswick County Finance Officer Ann Hardy has been named the special assistant to the county manager.

According to commissioner Marty Cooke, Hardy has been named as a special assistant because you can't name an interim before the current manager steps down.

Current County Manager Marty Lawing submitted his resignation earlier this month. He has accepted a job as County Manager in Guilford County and is expected to start there May 6.

Hardy's new assignment represents a transition phase for the county as they try and prepare for Lawing's departure.

The board will need to appoint an interim manager when Lawing officially steps down from his position in Brunswick County.
