There's a new option for Middle Tennessee families who need medical care for their children after their doctors' offices close.
"Things like sore throats, colds, ear infections, perhaps mild flu, um, bumps and bruises," said Dr. Meg Rush, with Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.
Vanderbilt Children's Hospital has opened an after-hours clinic in Mount Juliet, and unlike other walk-in clinics, the facility in Mount Juliet will have pediatricians on staff. Plus, all nurses and nurse practitioners will have pediatric training.
"We've listened to families, and we've listened to our pediatricians about having alternative models of care available to their patients," Rush said. "So we're really looking at this as an extension of our expertise from our campus here and our clinics here at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital out into our community."
The clinic is located at 2025 North Mt. Juliet Rd., Suite 200 and will be open seven days a week, including holidays.
Hours are Monday to Friday 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays 3 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Vanderbilt officials say they hope it's the first of several after-hours pediatric clinics in the surrounding Nashville area.
