WILMINGTON, NC - (WECT) - Growers at the Poplar Grove Plantation's Herb and Garden Fair said Sunday's rain hurt their potential profit.
Many said they will usually make around $3,000 or $4,000 at the annual event, but with cold temperatures on Saturday and rain on Sunday some said they wouldn't even make half what they normally do.
"You lose a lot of sales," said Nadine Gilmore of Backyard Gardners. She said this event kicks off the summer season for them and without a lot of sales it will hurt their business. "You are hoping to get your business started for the year, you know it really puts a damper on it."
She also says that if they can't get rid of the inventory they were planning on selling they will have less room to grow more.
Some of the growers at the fair were local, others had traveled from the western side of the state or from other states.
