NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – One New Hanover County leader inadvertently tested the security on his way to a board meeting.
County commissioner Thomas Wolfe said his pocketknife is partially to blame for his absence at the Department of Social Services board meeting Tuesday.
Wolfe said he's carried a pocketknife since he was a child, and forgets about it when going through security sometimes. The commissioner said it was a good sign that officers stopped him at the door of DSS.
"They won't let just anybody in here," he said.
Rather than keep the knife in his car and fulfill the commitment, Wolfe said he preferred to wait until another day for fellow commissioner Beth Dawson to complete their training.
Commissioner Wolfe, who also serves on the ABC board, recently chose not to accept the raise approved by county commissioners for ABC board members.
Wolfe said it wouldn't be right to accept a raise that he advocated for as a commissioner. He added that the current ABC board members are deserving of the raise.
