Volunteers voiced concerns during Monday night's commissioners meeting about some missing property at the shelter.
The sheriff said he will go over the tapes from the meeting to decide if any of the allegations are criminal.
He said, depending on what he learns, an investigation could start from his department or from another agency.
The Pender County Animal Shelter was recently informed it failed the state inspection for a number of reasons. The manager said employees are working to make sure they don't fail inspection again.
