Charles WarrenBRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A former county commissioner in Brunswick County continues his claims of discrimination by county leaders.
Charles Warren has filed a formal complaint against seven high ranking leaders, including the county commissioners. He is calling for a federal investigation into the board of commissioners.
According to court documents, Warren claims county leaders conspired to remove blacks from the Department of Social Services board. At the time, fellow commissioners told Warren he could not serve as a county commissioner and DSS board member.
They removed him from his DSS position. Warren also says another DSS board member, who is black, was removed from his seat only four days after the adoption of Code of Ethics and Conduct.
The lawsuit names all four people who served with Warren when he was county commissioner, including the county attorney and current commissioner Patricia Sykes. Warren kicked Sykes out of a DSS meeting and tried to have her suspended.
